Blue Ribbon Biscuits

 INGREDIENTS:
 
 3 cups flour
 2 Tablespoons baking powder
 1 teaspoon sugar
 1 teaspoon salt
 2/3 cup shortening
 1-1/2 cups milk
 
 TO PREPARE:
 
      Sift the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a 
 bowl.     Cut in the shortening until crumbly.  Stir in milk.  
 Knead the dough on a floured surface.      Roll the dough 1/2 
 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter.  Bake at 450 
 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
 
 YIELD:  12 - 16 biscuits
